The first armed attacks, in Cabo Delgado province, date from October 5, 2017, in the locality of Moc\u00edmboa da Praia, and targeted three Mocambican Police Squads.<\/p>\n

In recent years, the frequency of attacks and violence by insurgents has hit a number of state buildings and institutions and religious symbols.<\/p>\n

Despite the response of the Mozambican authorities to the insurgents' incursions, around 1000 people have already died, and there are currently more than 300,000 internally displaced people victims of the insurgency in the communities of Moc\u00edmboa da Praia, Macomia, Quissanga, Ilha do Ibo, Meluco and Nangade.<\/p>\n

There are several causes identified for the moment in which people live in Cabo Delgado:<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Increased levels of poverty;<\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Frustrated Expectations;<\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Increased pressure on the land;<\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Low incomes of the population;<\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Resettlements of the population;<\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Discriminatory feeling towards migrants;<\/p>\n

\"\u2b50\" Ethnolinguistic tensions.<\/p>\n

Despite the existence of several natural resources, Cabo Delgado, along with Nampula and Niassa, are the poorest provinces in the country. Cabo Delgado has the highest illiteracy rate in the North Zone and the lowest rate of access to basic services in the country.<\/p>\n

In an area where a large part of the population lives from artisanal fishing, today access to the sea is restricted; many of these fishing communities have suffered considerable loss of income.<\/p>\n
